Man Builds 3-Story Dream Home from 11 Shipping Containers

Designer Will Breaux turned his long-time dream into reality by building a house entirely out of shipping containers. His unique three-story residence, located on McGowen Street in Houston, spans 2,500 square feet and even features a rooftop deck.

The structure is made from 11 shipping containers, stacked and arranged to create a modern, functional living space. Its striking appearance has drawn attention from both neighbors and architecture enthusiasts.

Breaux’s vision for a custom-built home dates back to the early 2000s. However, finding a designer who could bring his ideas to life proved challenging. He wanted something unconventional, and most professionals he consulted didn’t share his vision.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, Breaux decided to take a more hands-on approach. He began researching container home projects and studying builds that inspired him, gathering ideas that aligned with his dream.

Initially, he hired a design team to help create the plans. But when their proposals didn’t meet his expectations, he made the bold choice to fire them and take full control of the design process.

By 2011, Breaux had committed to designing the home himself. This meant learning not only the creative aspects but also the technical details of working with shipping containers.

Over the years, his determination paid off. The final result is a unique blend of industrial style and modern comfort, showing that nontraditional materials can be used to create a warm, livable space.

Breaux’s container home stands as a testament to persistence, creativity, and the willingness to break away from conventional building methods to achieve a lifelong dream.
